How to Subscribe a Contact Form 7 Visitor to ConvertKit
A lead who fills in your enquiry form is ready to hear from you. Zapify subscribes them to a ConvertKit form, and so into its sequence, with the free A form is submitted trigger and the Subscribe to a form action. ConvertKit is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A form is submitted (
CF7_FORM_SUBMITTED, Contact Form 7) - Action: Subscribe to a form (
CONVERTKIT_SUBSCRIBE, ConvertKit)
Each time the form is submitted, Zapify subscribes the visitor to the ConvertKit form you choose.
Before you start
- Contact Form 7 installed and active, with a published form that has an email field.
- A ConvertKit API key — from your ConvertKit account settings. See ConvertKit's developer docs if you can't find it. The API secret is not needed for this action.
- The Form ID of the ConvertKit form to subscribe people to — the number at the end of the form's URL in ConvertKit.
PRO feature
ConvertKit is a Zapify PRO integration and needs a Connection under Settings → Connections. The A form is submitted trigger itself is free.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Connect ConvertKit
- Go to Settings → Connections and click Add New.

- Choose ConvertKit, paste in your API key, and name the connection something like Course ConvertKit.

- Save. The API secret field can be left blank — it's only needed for actions that read or delete data, not for subscribing.
See Connections for how this screen works generally.
Step 2: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Subscribe enquiries to ConvertKit.

Step 3: Add the "A form is submitted" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose Contact Form 7 as the app.

- Select A form is submitted.

- In the Form field, pick the specific form. Choosing a form gives you one token per field on it.
Step 4: Add the "Subscribe to a form" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose ConvertKit as the app.

- Select Subscribe to a form.

Step 5: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Yes | The ConvertKit connection you set up in Step 1. |
| Form ID | Yes | The number at the end of the form's URL in ConvertKit. |
| Email address | Yes | Insert the token for the form's email field. |
| First name | No | Insert the form's name token. |
| Tag IDs | No | Comma-separated. ConvertKit tags are numbers, not names — find a tag's ID in ConvertKit's own interface. |
Step 6: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 7: Test it
Submit the form with an address you control. Check the subscriber in ConvertKit, or open Zapify → Logs.
Tokens you can use
Once you select a specific Contact Form 7 form, the trigger exposes these tokens. Insert them anywhere in the email with the {} button.
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Form ID | The numeric ID of the submitted form. |
| Form title | The form's name. |
| Submitted at | The date and time of the submission. |
| All fields | Every submitted field rendered as one labelled block — handy when you just want the whole submission in the email. |
| One token per field | The value the visitor entered in that field, named after the field's tag (for example a your-email tag becomes a your-email token). |
Multi-value fields such as checkbox groups are joined into a readable, comma-separated list.
Conclusion
With the free A form is submitted trigger and the Subscribe to a form action, every enquiry joins your ConvertKit sequence. For buyers instead, see subscribing a customer to ConvertKit when a product is purchased.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
The trigger is free. The ConvertKit action needs an active Zapify PRO licence and a Connection.
Do enquirers consent to marketing emails?
An enquiry is not always consent. Add a consent checkbox to the form and only continue when it is ticked. See Filters and conditions.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is set up visually.
