Groundhogg Automations
How to Add a Contact Form 7 Lead to Groundhogg With a Tag
A lead-capture form that only sends an email to your inbox leaves the follow-up to you. Zapify can put every Contact Form 7 submission straight into Groundhogg, tagged by where it came from, using the free A form is submitted trigger and the Create or update a contact action. Groundhogg is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A form is submitted (
CF7_FORM_SUBMITTED, Contact Form 7) - Action: Create or update a contact (
GROUNDHOGG_UPSERT_CONTACT, Groundhogg)
When a visitor submits the form you choose, Zapify creates a Groundhogg contact with their details and a tag such as lead-contact-form — or updates the contact if that email is already there.
PRO feature
Groundhogg is a Zapify PRO integration. The Groundhogg action used in this automation needs an active Zapify PRO licence.
No Connection needed
Groundhogg runs on your own site rather than somebody else's server. There is no API key to paste and nothing to set up under Settings → Connections — the integration only needs Groundhogg installed and active.
Before you start
- Contact Form 7 installed and active, with at least one published form.
- Groundhogg installed and active.
- A form with an email field. Name and phone fields are optional.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Send CF7 leads to Groundhogg.

Step 2: Add the "A form is submitted" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose Contact Form 7 as the app, then select A form is submitted.

- In the Form field, pick the specific form. Choosing a form exposes one token per field on it — see send an email when a Contact Form 7 form is submitted for more on form-field tokens.
Step 3: Add the "Create or update a contact" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose Groundhogg as the app.

- Select Create or update a contact.

Step 4: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Yes | Insert the token for the form's email field. | |
| First name / Last name | No | Insert the matching form-field tokens, if your form collects them. |
| Phone | No | Insert a phone-field token, if collected. |
| Marketing status | No | Leave on Leave unchanged unless the form has a clear consent checkbox. |
| Custom meta | No | Save other answers on the contact: put the Groundhogg meta key on the left and a form-field token on the right. |
| Tags / Tag names | No | Type something like lead-contact-form into Tag names. It is created if it does not exist. |
Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 6: Test it
Submit the form with a test email address. Open Groundhogg → Contacts to find the contact and its tag, or open Zapify → Logs to confirm the run.
Tokens you can use
Once you have chosen a specific form in the trigger, Zapify exposes one token per field on that form, plus Form ID, Form title, Submitted at and All fields. Insert them into the action's fields to match whatever your form collects.
Conclusion
With the free A form is submitted trigger and the Create or update a contact action, Zapify moves every lead straight into Groundhogg and tags it for follow-up. To also tell your team, add an email when the form is submitted to the same automation.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
The Contact Form 7 trigger is free. Create or update a contact is part of the Groundhogg PRO integration and needs an active Zapify PRO licence.
What happens if the same person submits twice?
Groundhogg matches on email, so the existing contact is updated rather than duplicated.
Can I save form answers other than name and phone?
Yes. Use Custom meta: type the Groundhogg meta key and insert the form-field token as its value.
Can different forms get different tags?
Yes. Build one automation per form, each with its own Form and its own Tag names.
Do I need to set up a Connection?
No. Groundhogg is on your own site, so there is nothing to connect.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is configured visually.
