LifterLMS Automations

Mark a LifterLMS Lesson Complete When a Quiz Is Passed

You may use a quiz as a checkpoint before allowing a learner to move forward. Zapify can respond to a passing quiz result and use the Mark a lesson complete action to complete a lesson for that same student.

What this automation does

The automation is one trigger plus one action:

  • Trigger: A user completes a quiz (LIFTERLMS_QUIZ_COMPLETED) with Result = Passed
  • Action: Mark a lesson complete (LIFTERLMS_MARK_LESSON_COMPLETE)

When the selected quiz is passed, Zapify marks the lesson ID you configure as complete for the student who passed the quiz.

Before you start

  • LifterLMS must be installed and active.
  • Zapify PRO must be active, since LifterLMS is a PRO integration.
  • The target lesson must already exist as a LifterLMS lesson.

PRO feature

LifterLMS (lifterlms) is a Zapify PRO integration. The LifterLMS trigger and action used in this automation require an active PRO licence.

How to build the automation

Step 1: Create a new automation

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
  2. Click Add New to open the builder.
  3. Give the automation a clear name, such as Advance a student after passing a quiz.

Step 2: Add the "A user completes a quiz" trigger

  1. Click Add Trigger.

Add a trigger

  1. Choose LifterLMS as the app.

Select LifterLMS as the trigger app

  1. Select the trigger A user completes a quiz.

Select A user completes a quiz

Set Result to Passed

  1. Configure the trigger:
Field Required What it does
Quiz Yes Select the quiz that acts as the checkpoint.
Result Yes Select Passed so the action runs only after a passing result.

Step 3: Add the "Mark a lesson complete" action

  1. Click Add Action.

Add an action

  1. Choose LifterLMS as the app.

Select LifterLMS as the action app

  1. Select the action Mark a lesson complete.

Select Mark a lesson complete

  1. Configure the action:
Field Required What it does
Lesson ID Yes Enter the post ID of the LifterLMS lesson that should be marked complete.
User No Leave empty to use the student who passed the quiz. Enter a user ID only when you intentionally want to complete the lesson for another user.

For the normal checkpoint workflow, leave User empty. Zapify resolves the user from the quiz trigger, so the lesson is completed for the student who passed.

Step 4: Set the steps Live and save

  1. Set both the trigger and the action to Live.
  2. Click Save.

Set the automation live

Action output tokens

After the action runs, it exposes:

Token What it holds
Lesson ID The lesson that Zapify marked complete.
User ID The user for whom the lesson was completed.

How to test it

  1. Create or choose a test student.
  2. Make sure the target lesson is not already complete for that student.
  3. Take the selected quiz and submit a passing attempt.
  4. Check the student's LifterLMS progress and verify that the configured lesson is complete.
  5. Open Zapify → Logs if the lesson was not marked complete and inspect the action result.

Important configuration note

The Lesson ID action field expects the WordPress post ID of a LifterLMS lesson. It is not the quiz ID or section ID. If you copy an ID from a WordPress edit URL such as post.php?post=123&action=edit, the post ID is 123.

Conclusion

This automation lets a quiz act as a completion checkpoint. For example, a learner can pass an assessment and have a related lesson completed automatically, keeping LifterLMS progress synchronized with an assessment workflow.

FAQs

Does the action automatically know which lesson to complete?

No. You must enter the target Lesson ID. The quiz trigger provides a Lesson ID token when available, but use it only when it represents the lesson you actually want to complete.

Who receives the completion?

By default, the student who triggered the automation. Leave User empty.

Will a failed quiz complete the lesson?

No. The trigger is filtered to Result = Passed.

Can I use a token for the Lesson ID?

Yes, where the builder's token picker exposes a suitable token. Verify that the resolved value is a LifterLMS lesson post ID before relying on it.

Do I need to write any code?

No. Everything is configured in the Zapify visual builder.
