BuddyPress Automations
Send an Email When a User Posts to the BuddyPress Activity Stream
The activity stream is where a BuddyPress community talks. If you moderate it, or just like to see what members are saying, you do not want to keep refreshing the page. Zapify can email you each new post with a direct link, using the A user posts to the activity stream trigger and the Send an email action.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A user posts to the activity stream (
BP_ACTIVITY_POSTED, BuddyPress) - Action: Send an email (
WP_SEND_EMAIL, WordPress)
When a member posts a status update, Zapify emails the address you choose with the post's text and link.
Before you start
- BuddyPress must be installed and active, with the Activity Streams component switched on in your BuddyPress settings. Zapify's BuddyPress integration is not available on sites running BuddyBoss Platform.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Review new activity posts.

Step 2: Add the "A user posts to the activity stream" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.
- Choose BuddyPress as the app.
- Select the trigger A user posts to the activity stream.
This trigger has no settings to fill in. It runs for every status update.

Step 3: Add the "Send an email" action
- Click Add Action.
- Choose WordPress as the app.
- Select Send an email.

Step 4: Write the email
Use the {} token button beside any field to insert the post and the member's details.

| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| To | Yes | Type the address of whoever moderates the stream. |
| Subject | Yes | The subject line. Tokens are allowed. |
| Format | Yes | HTML (default) or Plain text. |
| Body | Yes | The message. Tokens are allowed. |
| Cc / Bcc | No | Extra recipients. |
| From name / From email | No | Override the sender. |
| Reply to | No | Where replies go. |
For example:
- To:
moderation@example.com - Subject:
New activity post from {Display name} - Body:
{Display name} posted: {Activity content}. See it here: {Activity URL}

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
- Set both the trigger and the action to Live. A new automation starts as Draft and will not run until its steps are Live.
- Click Save.

Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Activity ID | The numeric ID of the post. |
| Activity content | The text the member wrote. |
| Activity URL | The link to the post. |
The member who posted is available as the usual user tokens, such as User email, Display name, First name and Last name.
How to test it
- Log in as a test member and post an update from the activity box.
- Check the recipient's inbox for the email.
- If you use groups, post a test update inside a group too, so you know whether those are included on your site.
- If nothing arrives, open Zapify → Logs to see whether the run fired.
Conclusion
With the A user posts to the activity stream trigger and the Send an email action, Zapify keeps you in the loop on what your community is saying, on the free plan. Next, post something back automatically with add a BuddyPress activity when a WooCommerce product is purchased.
FAQs
Does it include posts made inside groups?
Zapify is built to see those as well. Because BuddyPress versions and themes differ, post a test update inside one of your groups to confirm before you rely on it for moderation.
If another Zapify automation adds an activity, will this one run?
No. Activities added by Zapify's Add an activity to a user action do not start this trigger, so one automation can never set another off in a loop. This trigger runs for posts members write themselves.
Can I email only for certain members?
Running an automation only for certain members or certain content uses Conditions, a PRO feature; see Filters and conditions.
Is this feature free?
Yes. BuddyPress is a free Zapify integration, and both the A user posts to the activity stream trigger and the Send an email action are included in the free plan.
Why didn't the email send?
First confirm both the trigger and the action are set to Live and the automation is saved. Then check Zapify → Logs. If the run succeeded but no email arrived, the cause is usually the site's mail configuration; an SMTP plugin resolves most delivery problems.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is configured in the Zapify visual builder.
