LearnDash Automations
Send an Email When a LearnDash Topic Is Completed
A topic sits inside a lesson inside a course, and some courses are built granular enough that topic-level progress is where the useful moments are — the end of a module within a longer lesson, for instance. Zapify does this with the A user completes a topic trigger and the Send an email action. LearnDash is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A user completes a topic (
LEARNDASH_TOPIC_COMPLETED, LearnDash) - Action: Send an email (
WP_SEND_EMAIL, WordPress)
When a student completes the topic you choose, Zapify fills the email's tokens — including both the topic and the lesson it belongs to — and sends it.
Before you start
- LearnDash must be installed and active.
- Zapify PRO must be active, since LearnDash is a PRO integration.
- The topic (and its course) you want to watch must already exist.
PRO feature
LearnDash (learndash) is a Zapify PRO integration. Every LearnDash trigger and action requires an active PRO licence.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Follow up after topic completion.

Step 2: Add the "A user completes a topic" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose LearnDash as the app.

- Select the trigger A user completes a topic.

- In the Topic field, choose the specific topic to watch, or leave it on Any topic. Optionally narrow further with the Course field.
Step 3: Add the "Send an email" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose WordPress as the app.

- Select Send an email.

Step 4: Configure the email

For example:
- To: the student
- Subject:
You finished {{trigger:TOPIC_TITLE}} - Body:
That wraps up this part of {{trigger:LESSON_TITLE}}. Keep going here: {{trigger:COURSE_URL}}

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
- Set both the trigger and the action to Live.
- Click Save.

Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Course ID / Course title / Course URL | The course the topic belongs to. |
| Topic ID / Topic title / Topic URL | The topic that was completed. |
| Lesson ID / Lesson title / Lesson URL | The parent lesson the topic sits inside. |
How to test it
- Complete the selected topic as a test student.
- Check the recipient inbox for the email.
- If nothing arrives, open Zapify → Logs to see whether the run fired — and whether the Topic or Course filter excluded it.
Conclusion
With the A user completes a topic trigger and the Send an email action, Zapify reacts at the most granular level of LearnDash progress. Next, go up a level with an email when a LearnDash lesson is completed, or see the full picture in triggers and actions.
