LearnDash Automations

Send an Email When a LearnDash Course Is Completed

You want to congratulate a student the moment they finish a course — and hand them the certificate link while it's fresh. Zapify does this with the A user completes a course trigger and the Send an email action. LearnDash is a Zapify PRO integration.

What this automation does

The automation is one trigger plus one action:

  • Trigger: A user completes a course (LEARNDASH_COURSE_COMPLETED, LearnDash)
  • Action: Send an email (WP_SEND_EMAIL, WordPress)

When a student completes the course you choose, Zapify fills the email's tokens — including a link to their certificate — and sends it.

Zapify listens on LearnDash's own learndash_course_completed signal, so this fires however the student reached 100% — by working through every lesson, or by being marked complete manually or by another automation.

Before you start

  • LearnDash must be installed and active.
  • Zapify PRO must be active, since LearnDash is a PRO integration.
  • The course you want to watch must already exist.

PRO feature

LearnDash (learndash) is a Zapify PRO integration. Every LearnDash trigger and action requires an active PRO licence.

Course tokens you can use

Token What it holds
Course ID The numeric ID of the course.
Course title The course's name.
Course URL The permalink to the course.
Certificate link The student's certificate URL, if the course awards one.
Completed at The date and time the course was completed.

No certificate hook

LearnDash has no event for "a certificate was issued" — a certificate is generated whenever someone asks for it, not awarded at a fixed moment. The Certificate link token reads the same link LearnDash would show the student; it's empty if the course doesn't have a certificate configured.

How to test it

  1. Mark a test course complete for a test student — either by finishing every lesson or by marking it complete from the admin.
  2. Check the recipient inbox for the email.
  3. If nothing arrives, open Zapify → Logs to see whether the run fired.

Conclusion

With the A user completes a course trigger and the Send an email action, Zapify congratulates every student the moment they finish — certificate link included. Next, welcome students the moment they start with an email when a user is enrolled on a LearnDash course, or recognise progress along the way with an email when a LearnDash lesson is completed.

FAQs

Does this fire no matter how the course was completed?

Yes. LearnDash fires learndash_course_completed whether the student finished every lesson themselves or an admin (or another automation) marked the course complete, so the trigger covers both.

Is this feature free?

No. LearnDash is a Zapify PRO integration; the trigger and action both require an active PRO licence.

Can I limit this to one course?

Yes, using the Course field in the trigger configuration.

Either the course doesn't have a certificate configured in LearnDash, or the link is generated the first time someone visits it — in either case, that's LearnDash's own certificate behaviour, not something Zapify controls.

Do I need to write any code?

No. Everything is configured in the Zapify visual builder.
