BuddyPress Automations
Send a Welcome Email When a BuddyPress Account Is Activated
On a BuddyPress community, a new member registers, receives an activation email, and clicks the link inside it. That click is the moment they are truly in — and the best moment to say welcome, point them to your community rules, or tell them where to start. Zapify does this automatically with the A user account gets activated trigger and the Send an email action.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A user account gets activated (
BP_ACCOUNT_ACTIVATED, BuddyPress) - Action: Send an email (
WP_SEND_EMAIL, WordPress)
When a new member activates their account, Zapify sends them the email you wrote, with their own name and details filled in.
Before you start
- BuddyPress must be installed and active. Zapify's BuddyPress integration is not available on sites running BuddyBoss Platform.
- Your site should ask new members to confirm their account through BuddyPress's activation email, since that confirmation is what this trigger listens for.
BuddyPress is required
This automation needs BuddyPress installed and active. If it is missing, Zapify can offer to install it from the trigger picker. BuddyPress is a free Zapify integration, so there is nothing extra to buy.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Give the automation a clear name, such as Welcome new community members.

Step 2: Add the "A user account gets activated" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.
- Choose BuddyPress as the app.
- Select the trigger A user account gets activated.
This trigger has no settings to fill in. It runs for every account that is activated.

Step 3: Add the "Send an email" action
- Click Add Action.
- Choose WordPress as the app.
- Select Send an email.

Step 4: Write the welcome email
Fill in the email fields. Use the {} token button beside any field to insert details about the member who just activated their account.

| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| To | Yes | Insert the User email token so the message reaches the member who just activated. |
| Subject | Yes | The subject line. Tokens are allowed. |
| Format | Yes | HTML (default) or Plain text. |
| Body | Yes | The message. Tokens are allowed. |
| Cc / Bcc | No | Extra recipients, such as a community manager. |
| From name / From email | No | Override the sender. |
| Reply to | No | Where replies go. |
For example:
- To: the User email token
- Subject:
Welcome to the community, {Display name}! - Body:
Hi {First name}, your account is active. Start by completing your profile and introducing yourself in the community.

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
- Set both the trigger and the action to Live using their per-step switch. A new automation starts as Draft and will not run until its steps are Live.
- Click Save.

Tokens you can use
This trigger does not add tokens of its own. The member whose account was activated is available as the usual user tokens:
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| User ID | The member's numeric ID. |
| Username | The member's login name. |
| User email | The member's email address. |
| Display name | The name shown on the member's profile. |
| First name / Last name | The member's name fields, if they filled them in. |
How to test it
- Register a new test member on your site.
- Open the activation email BuddyPress sends and click the link.
- Check the test member's inbox for your welcome email.
- If nothing arrives, open Zapify → Logs to see whether the run fired and what the email action reported.
The Send an email action is queued and sent in the background, so the message can arrive a moment after activation rather than instantly.
Conclusion
With the A user account gets activated trigger and the Send an email action, Zapify greets every new BuddyPress member the moment they are officially in, on the free plan. Next, drop them straight into a starter group with add a new member to a BuddyPress group when their account is activated, or react earlier, at registration, with send a welcome email to a new WordPress user.
FAQs
When does this automation run — at registration or at activation?
At activation. Registration is when someone fills in the sign-up form; activation is when they follow the link in the email BuddyPress sends them. The automation runs at that second step. If you want to react when the account is first created instead, use the WordPress registration trigger.
Is this feature free?
Yes. BuddyPress is a free Zapify integration, and both the A user account gets activated trigger and the Send an email action are included in the free plan.
Does the member need to be logged in?
No. The person clicking an activation link is not logged in yet, and the automation still runs. The member whose account was activated is the person the automation runs for, so their name and email are available in your message.
Can I send the email to someone else as well?
Yes. Add a second address in Cc or Bcc, or add a second Send an email action addressed to your community manager.
Why didn't the email send?
First confirm both the trigger and the action are set to Live and the automation is saved. Then check Zapify → Logs for the run. If the run succeeded but no email arrived, the cause is usually the site's mail configuration; an SMTP plugin resolves most delivery problems.
Do I need to write any code?
No. The whole automation is built in the Zapify visual builder by picking the trigger, adding the Send an email action, and inserting tokens.
