BuddyPress Automations
Send an Email When a BuddyPress Member Updates Their Cover Image
Cover images are the big banner at the top of a member's profile, and because they are so prominent, many community owners like to glance at new ones. Zapify can send you a quick heads-up with a direct link to the image each time one is uploaded, using the A user updates their cover image trigger and the Send an email action.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A user updates their cover image (
BP_COVER_UPDATED, BuddyPress) - Action: Send an email (
WP_SEND_EMAIL, WordPress)
When a member uploads a new cover image, Zapify emails the address you choose with the member's details and the image link.
The trigger is about member profile cover images only. Group cover images do not start it.
Before you start
- BuddyPress must be installed and active, with member cover images turned on in your BuddyPress settings. Zapify's BuddyPress integration is not available on sites running BuddyBoss Platform.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Review new cover images.

Step 2: Add the "A user updates their cover image" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.
- Choose BuddyPress as the app.
- Select the trigger A user updates their cover image.
This trigger has no settings to fill in.

Step 3: Add the "Send an email" action
- Click Add Action.
- Choose WordPress as the app.
- Select Send an email.

Step 4: Write the email
Use the {} token button beside any field to insert the member's details and the image link.

| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| To | Yes | Type the address of whoever reviews new images, such as your moderation inbox. |
| Subject | Yes | The subject line. Tokens are allowed. |
| Format | Yes | HTML (default) or Plain text. |
| Body | Yes | The message. Tokens are allowed. |
| Cc / Bcc | No | Extra recipients. |
| From name / From email | No | Override the sender. |
| Reply to | No | Where replies go. |
For example:
- To:
moderation@example.com - Subject:
New cover image from {Display name} - Body:
{Display name} has uploaded a new cover image. Take a look: {Cover image URL}

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
- Set both the trigger and the action to Live. A new automation starts as Draft and will not run until its steps are Live.
- Click Save.

Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Cover image URL | The web address of the new cover image. |
| Cover image file name | The file name of the uploaded image. |
The member whose cover image changed is available as the usual user tokens, such as User email, Display name, First name and Last name.
How to test it
- Log in as a test member and upload a cover image from Profile → Change cover image.
- Check the recipient's inbox for the email and open the image link.
- If nothing arrives, open Zapify → Logs to see whether the run fired.
Conclusion
With the A user updates their cover image trigger and the Send an email action, Zapify puts every new banner image in front of you for a quick review, on the free plan. Next, do the same for profile photos by rewarding them with add a role when a member uploads a profile photo.
FAQs
Does this stop the image from being shown until I approve it?
No. The email is a notification. The image is already on the member's profile when Zapify sends it, so use it to review after the fact.
Does it run when an admin changes a member's cover image?
Yes. The member whose cover image it is is the person the automation is about, so the user tokens describe that member.
Is this feature free?
Yes. BuddyPress is a free Zapify integration, and both the A user updates their cover image trigger and the Send an email action are included in the free plan.
Why didn't the email send?
First confirm both the trigger and the action are set to Live and the automation is saved. Then check Zapify → Logs. If the run succeeded but no email arrived, the cause is usually the site's mail configuration; an SMTP plugin resolves most delivery problems.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is configured in the Zapify visual builder.
