How to Post a Slack Message When a New User Registers in WordPress
A new member is worth a moment of attention, and a Slack channel is where your team already looks. Zapify posts to it the instant someone registers, with the free A user registers trigger and the Send a Slack message action. Slack is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A user registers (
WP_USER_REGISTERS, WordPress) - Action: Send a Slack message (
SLACK_SEND_MESSAGE, Slack)
When a new account is created, Zapify posts a short message to the Slack channel you choose.
Before you start
- A Slack app for your workspace with a bot user OAuth token (starts
xoxb-), created under OAuth & Permissions in your Slack app's settings — see Slack's authentication basics if you're setting one up for the first time. The bot needs thechat:writescope. - The bot invited into the channel you want it to post to — Slack won't let it post to a channel it isn't a member of.
PRO feature
Slack is a Zapify PRO integration and needs a Connection under Settings → Connections. The A user registers trigger itself is free.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Connect Slack
- Go to Settings → Connections and click Add New.

- Choose Slack, paste in the bot user OAuth token, and name the connection something like Sales Slack.

- Save.
See Connections for how this screen works generally.
Step 2: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Announce new members in Slack.

Step 3: Add the "A user registers" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose WordPress as the app.

- Select A user registers.

Step 4: Add the "Send a Slack message" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose Slack as the app.

- Select Send a Slack message.

Step 5: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Yes | The Slack connection you set up in Step 1. |
| Channel | Yes | A channel name (#members) or ID. The bot must already be a member. |
| Message | Yes | The text to post. Insert user tokens to say who signed up. |
| Post as | No | Overrides the bot's display name for this message. Leave empty to use the bot's own name. |
For example:
- Channel:
#members - Message:
New member: {{trigger:USER_DISPLAY_NAME}} ({{trigger:USER_EMAIL}})
Step 6: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 7: Test it
Register a test account. The message should appear in the channel within a minute, or open Zapify → Logs to see what Slack answered.
Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| User email | The new account's email address. |
| Display name / First name / Last name | Name parts, if set. |
| Username | The login name. |
| Registration date | When they registered. |
Conclusion
With the free A user registers trigger and the Send a Slack message action, your team hears about every new member as it happens. For sales instead, see posting a Slack message when a product is purchased.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
The trigger is free. The Slack action needs an active Zapify PRO licence and a Connection.
Why does Slack say the channel was not found?
The bot has to be invited into the channel first. Type /invite @YourBot in the channel, then run the automation again.
Could this be noisy?
On a busy site, yes. Post to a quiet channel of its own, or add a condition so only certain roles are announced. See Filters and conditions.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is set up visually.
