Zapify Connections Explained
Some integrations live on your own site — WordPress, WooCommerce, LifterLMS — and Zapify talks to them directly. Others are somebody else's server — Slack, Mailchimp, Google Sheets — and Zapify needs credentials before it can talk to them. A Connection is where those credentials live: set up once under Settings → Connections, then picked from a dropdown in any action that needs it. Connections are a Zapify PRO feature.
PRO feature
Connections, and every integration that needs one, require Zapify PRO.
Why a separate screen instead of a field on the action
Three reasons this is one screen rather than a field inside each action:
- Reuse. Ten automations that all post to Slack share one bot token instead of ten copies of it pasted into ten actions.
- Rotation. A key that leaks or expires is replaced once, in one place, and every automation that uses it is fixed at the same time — no hunting through automations for where else it was pasted.
- More than one account. A site with two Mailchimp audiences under different keys, or two Slack workspaces, creates two connections and picks the right one per action.
The two kinds of connection
API key. Most integrations — Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, ConvertKit, ClickUp, Slack, AI — ask you to paste in credentials copied from that service's own settings screen: an API key, a token, sometimes a second value like Mailchimp's server prefix or ActiveCampaign's account URL. Each integration's automation guide lists exactly which fields it needs and links to where that service shows them.
OAuth. Google Sheets connects by signing in to a Google account instead of pasting anything. Click Connect, approve access on Google's own consent screen, and Zapify stores the token that comes back. An OAuth connection can expire; Zapify renews it automatically when it can, and if a renewal fails you will see the connection marked for reconnecting.
Setting one up
Step 1: Open Settings → Connections

Step 2: Add a new connection
Click Add New, choose the integration, and give the connection a name — this is what appears in every action's Connection dropdown later, so name it for what it's connected to (Marketing Mailchimp) rather than leaving it blank.
Step 3: Fill in the credentials
Each integration asks for different fields — see that integration's automation guide for exactly what to paste and where to find it. Click Save once they are filled in.
Step 4: Use it in an action
Any action that talks to that integration has its own Connection field. Select the one you just created.
If an action reports no usable connection
- Never selected. The action was added before any connection existed, so the dropdown was empty. Open the automation, pick a connection now that one exists, and save.
- Deleted or wrong integration. A connection tied to a different integration, or since removed, cannot be used — pick a valid one from the dropdown.
- Expired OAuth token that could not renew. Reconnect it from Settings → Connections; Zapify will say when the previous access was revoked rather than merely stale.
Each of these produces its own message in Zapify → Logs, so the log tells you which of the three you are looking at rather than a single generic failure.
Conclusion
Connections keep credentials for outside services in one place, reusable across every automation, and swappable without editing the automations themselves. Set one up under Settings → Connections, then pick it from the Connection field on the relevant action — see the guides for Slack, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, ConvertKit, ClickUp, and Google Sheets.
FAQs
Is this a free feature?
No. Connections, and the integrations that require one, are part of Zapify PRO.
Can I have more than one connection to the same service?
Yes. Give each one a distinct name so you can tell them apart in the dropdown — Zapify appends the connection's ID to the label automatically if two share a name.
What happens to automations if I delete a connection they use?
The action can no longer find it and fails with a message telling you to pick a connection again. The automation is not deleted — open it, select a replacement connection, and save.
Does Zapify store my API keys in plain text?
Sensitive fields — API keys, tokens, secrets — are marked as such by the integration and are not displayed back to you once saved. Only the connection's name is shown in dropdowns.
My Google Sheets connection stopped working. Why?
OAuth access can be revoked from Google's side — for example if you changed your Google account's password or removed Zapify's access under your Google account's security settings. Reconnect it from Settings → Connections.
Do I need to write any code to set one up?
No. Every connection is a short form — paste the credentials, or sign in through OAuth — filled in once in the Zapify settings screen.
