The Events Calendar Automations
How to Announce a New Event in Slack When It Is Published in The Events Calendar
A new event only helps if people hear about it. Zapify can post it to your team's Slack channel the moment you publish it, so everyone can share it straight away. It uses the An event is published trigger and the Send a Slack message action. The Events Calendar and Slack are Zapify PRO integrations.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: An event is published (
TEC_EVENT_PUBLISHED, The Events Calendar) - Action: Send a Slack message (
SLACK_SEND_MESSAGE, Slack)
When a new event goes live on your calendar — published straight away, or when its scheduled time arrives — Zapify posts its title, date, venue and link to your Slack channel so the whole team can share it.
PRO feature
The Events Calendar is a Zapify PRO integration. Both the trigger and the Slack action used in this automation need needs an active Zapify PRO licence.
Works without Event Tickets
This is the one Events Calendar trigger that does not need Event Tickets. It only needs The Events Calendar.
Only the first publish counts
It runs when an event is published for the first time. Editing an event that is already live does not run it again.
No Connection needed
The Events Calendar runs on your own site, so there is no API key to paste and nothing to set up under Settings → Connections.
Before you start
- The Events Calendar installed and active.
- A Slack app for your workspace with a bot user OAuth token and the
chat:writepermission, with the bot invited into your channel. See Slack's authentication basics.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Connect Slack
- Go to Settings → Connections and click Add New.

- Choose Slack, paste in the bot user OAuth token, and name the connection something like Marketing Slack.

- Save.
Step 2: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Share new events in Slack.

Step 3: Add the "An event is published" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose The Events Calendar as the app.

- Select the trigger An event is published.

- Configure the trigger:
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Event category | Yes | Pick a category such as Workshops, or leave it on Any category to announce every new event. |
Categories in the block editor
If you build events in the block editor, WordPress saves the categories a moment after the event is published, so a category filter can miss the very first publish. If that happens, leave the category on Any category, or create events in the classic editor.
Step 4: Add the "Send a Slack message" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose Slack as the app.

- Select Send a Slack message.

Step 5: Configure the message
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Yes | The Slack connection you set up in Step 1. |
| Channel | Yes | A channel name (#marketing) or ID. The bot must already be a member. |
| Message | Yes | The text to post. Insert the event tokens. |
| Post as | No | Overrides the bot's display name for this message. |
For example:
- Channel:
#marketing - Message:
📅 New event: {Event title} on {Event start} at {Venue name}. Share it: {Event URL}
Step 6: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 7: Test it
Create a test event and publish it. The message should appear within a minute, or open Zapify → Logs to see the result.
Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Event title | The event's name. |
| Event URL | The link to the event page. |
| Event start / Event end | When it begins and ends. |
| Venue name / Venue address | Where it takes place. |
| Organizer name | Who is running it. |
| Event ID | The numeric ID, for advanced use. |
Conclusion
With the An event is published trigger and the Send a Slack message action, your team always knows when something new is on the calendar, ready to share. To also watch the sales that follow, see posting to Slack when a ticket is sold.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
No. Both the Events Calendar trigger and the Slack action need an active Zapify PRO licence, and Slack also needs a Connection.
Does it need Event Tickets?
No. This trigger works with The Events Calendar alone.
Does it run for events scheduled in the future?
Yes. A scheduled event runs the automation when WordPress publishes it at the scheduled time, not when you saved it.
Can I announce only some events?
Yes. Pick a category in the trigger and only events in that category are posted.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is configured visually in the Zapify builder.
