How to Add a Contact Form 7 Submission to ActiveCampaign
Running a lead-capture form and want every submission to become a contact in ActiveCampaign instead of sitting in an email inbox? Zapify does this with the free A form is submitted trigger (Contact Form 7) and the Add or update a contact action. ActiveCampaign is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A form is submitted (
CF7_FORM_SUBMITTED, Contact Form 7) - Action: Add or update a contact (
ACTIVECAMPAIGN_ADD_CONTACT, ActiveCampaign)
When a visitor submits the Contact Form 7 form you choose, Zapify creates a contact in ActiveCampaign with their details — or updates the matching contact if that email is already there.
PRO feature
ActiveCampaign is a Zapify PRO integration and needs a Connection under Settings → Connections. The Contact Form 7 trigger itself is free.
Before you start
- Contact Form 7 installed and active, with at least one published form.
- Your ActiveCampaign API URL and API key, from your account's Settings → Developer page — see ActiveCampaign's guide if you can't find it.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Connect ActiveCampaign
- Go to Settings → Connections and click Add New.

- Choose ActiveCampaign.

-
Paste in the API URL (no trailing slash) and the API key, and name the connection something like Sales ActiveCampaign.
-
Save.
See Connections for how this screen works generally.
Step 2: Create a new automation
-
In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
-
Click Add New to open the builder.

- Name it clearly, such as Send CF7 leads to ActiveCampaign.
Step 3: Add the "A form is submitted" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose Contact Form 7 as the app, and select A form is submitted.

- In the Form field, pick the specific form — for example, your contact page's lead form.
Choosing a specific form exposes one token per field on that form. See send an email when a Contact Form 7 form is submitted for more on form-field tokens.
Step 4: Add the "Add or update a contact" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose ActiveCampaign as the app, and select Add or update a contact.

Step 5: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Yes | The ActiveCampaign connection you set up in Step 1. |
| Email address | Yes | Insert the token for the form's email field. |
| First name / Last name | No | Insert the matching form-field tokens, if your form collects them. |
| Phone | No | Insert a phone-field token, if collected. |
Step 6: Set the steps Live and save
- Set both the trigger and the action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 7: Test it
Submit the form yourself with a test email address. Check ActiveCampaign's Contacts list for the new record, or open Zapify → Logs to confirm the run and see the HTTP status ActiveCampaign returned.
Tokens you can use
Once you've chosen a specific form in the trigger, Zapify exposes one token per field on that form — insert them into the action's Email address, First name, Last name, and Phone fields to match whatever your form actually collects.
Conclusion
With the free A form is submitted trigger and the Add or update a contact action, Zapify moves every Contact Form 7 lead straight into ActiveCampaign — no manual copy-pasting from an inbox. To also notify your team, add an email when the form is submitted to the same automation.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
The Contact Form 7 trigger is free. Add or update a contact is part of the ActiveCampaign PRO integration and needs an active Zapify PRO licence and a Connection.
What happens if the same person submits twice?
ActiveCampaign's sync endpoint matches on email and updates the existing contact rather than creating a duplicate.
Where do I find my API URL and key?
In ActiveCampaign, go to Settings → Developer. Both the account URL and the API key are shown there.
Can I add the contact to a specific list or tag automatically?
Not with this action alone — it only adds or updates the contact's core fields. Use an ActiveCampaign automation on their side to move new contacts into lists or apply tags based on how they were added.
My form has fields this action doesn't show. What do I do?
Only Email address, First name, Last name, and Phone are supported by this action's own fields. Other form data can still be recorded by adding a Send an email or Write a note to the log action alongside it.
Do I need to write any code?
No. The connection and every field are configured visually — the API URL and key are the only things you copy from ActiveCampaign.
