MailPoet Automations
How to Send an Email When a Subscriber Is Added to a MailPoet List
Joining a list is the moment to say something: welcome the subscriber, flag a VIP, or tell sales. Zapify can send that email the moment MailPoet adds somebody to a list, using the A subscriber is added to a list trigger and the Send an email action. MailPoet is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A subscriber is added to a list (
MAILPOET_SUBSCRIBER_ADDED_TO_LIST, MailPoet) - Action: Send an email (
WP_SEND_EMAIL, WordPress)
Whenever a subscriber becomes subscribed to the list you choose — from a form, from the MailPoet admin, from another plugin, or from a Zapify action — Zapify sends the email.
It runs when they are actually subscribed
If sign-up confirmation is switched on in MailPoet, a new subscriber is only added to the list once they click the link in the confirmation email. The automation runs at that point, not when they first submit the form. That makes it a good "confirmed subscriber" signal.
Bulk adds run once per subscriber
Adding a thousand subscribers to a list in the MailPoet admin runs this automation a thousand times — and sends a thousand emails. Pick a specific list rather than Any list, and think before bulk-adding to a list that has this automation live.
PRO feature
MailPoet is a Zapify PRO integration. The MailPoet trigger used in this automation needs an active Zapify PRO licence.
No Connection needed
MailPoet runs on your own site rather than somebody else's server. There is no API key to paste and nothing to set up under Settings → Connections — the integration only needs MailPoet installed and active.
Before you start
- MailPoet installed and active, with the list already created (MailPoet → Lists).
- A working mail setup so WordPress can send email.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Email the team when someone joins the VIP list.

Step 2: Add the "A subscriber is added to a list" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose MailPoet as the app.

- Select the trigger A subscriber is added to a list.

Configure the trigger:
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| List | Yes | Pick the list to watch, or leave it on Any list to run whenever a subscriber is added to any list. |
Step 3: Add the "Send an email" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose WordPress as the app.

- Select Send an email.

Step 4: Configure the email

In the To field, insert the Email token to email the new subscriber, or type your team's address to be alerted.
For example:
- Subject:
Welcome to {List name} - Body:
Hi {First name}, you are now subscribed to {List name}. - Format: HTML or Plain text
Use the {} token button beside a field to insert the values — Zapify fills them in for each run.

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 6: Test it
In MailPoet → Subscribers, add a test subscriber to the list (or subscribe through a form and confirm). Check the inbox, or open Zapify → Logs to confirm the run.
Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Subscriber ID | The subscriber's MailPoet ID. |
| The subscriber's email address. | |
| First name / Last name | The name parts, if set. |
| List ID / List name | The list they were added to. |
Conclusion
With the A subscriber is added to a list trigger and the Send an email action, joining a MailPoet list becomes an instant welcome or alert. To give the new subscriber a WordPress role at the same time, see adding a role when a subscriber joins a list.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
The Send an email action is free, but the MailPoet trigger is part of the MailPoet PRO integration and needs an active Zapify PRO licence.
Does it work for subscribers who are not WordPress users?
Yes. Most subscribers have no account. They still start the automation; they just have no user attached to the run, and the email uses the Email token.
Is this the same as MailPoet's own welcome email?
No. MailPoet's welcome emails are part of its own email builder. This automation is a separate message from Zapify, useful for alerts or anything MailPoet's welcome email cannot do.
Why did it not run when someone signed up?
With sign-up confirmation on, the subscriber is added to the list only after they confirm. Check Zapify → Logs after they click the link.
Does Zapify's own MailPoet action start this automation again?
No, not by default. Zapify ignores events caused by its own actions, so an automation that changes a MailPoet list does not trigger a MailPoet automation in the same request. This is what stops an automation looping back on itself. Subscribers added by a MailPoet form, by you in MailPoet, or by another plugin do start it.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is configured visually.
