MailPoet Automations
How to Add a New WordPress User to a MailPoet List
Want every new account to land on your newsletter list without exporting a CSV? Zapify does this with the free A user registers trigger and the Add a subscriber to lists MailPoet action. MailPoet is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A user registers (
WP_USER_REGISTERS, WordPress) - Action: Add a subscriber to lists (
MAILPOET_ADD_SUBSCRIBER, MailPoet)
Whenever a new account is created, Zapify adds that person to MailPoet — creating the subscriber if they are new, or just subscribing the existing one — and puts them on the lists you choose.
Only add people who agreed to hear from you
Adding somebody to a MailPoet list without their consent is how sending domains get reported. Use this automation for people who opted in — a checkout checkbox, a sign-up box, a form field. Leave Send the confirmation email ticked so MailPoet can ask them to confirm.
Subscribed or unconfirmed?
Zapify cannot choose the new subscriber's status. MailPoet decides it from its own setting: with sign-up confirmation switched on (MailPoet → Settings → Sign-up Confirmation) new subscribers start Unconfirmed until they click the link in the confirmation email; with it off they are Subscribed straight away.
People who unsubscribed are left alone
If the email belongs to somebody who has unsubscribed or bounced in MailPoet, Zapify does not add them again. The run is recorded as skipped with the reason, because quietly re-subscribing someone who opted out is how senders end up reported as spam.
PRO feature
MailPoet is a Zapify PRO integration. The MailPoet action used in this automation needs an active Zapify PRO licence.
No Connection needed
MailPoet runs on your own site rather than somebody else's server. There is no API key to paste and nothing to set up under Settings → Connections — the integration only needs MailPoet installed and active.
Before you start
- MailPoet installed and active, with at least one list (MailPoet → Lists).
- A registration form that tells people they will receive your newsletter, or a checkbox to say so.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Add new users to MailPoet.

Step 2: Add the "A user registers" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose WordPress as the app.

- Select the trigger A user registers.

Step 3: Add the "Add a subscriber to lists" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose MailPoet as the app.

- Select Add a subscriber to lists.

Step 4: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Subscriber email | No | Leave empty to use the email of the user who just registered, or insert the User email token. |
| Lists | Yes | Pick one or more MailPoet lists to subscribe them to. Only ordinary lists appear — MailPoet's own WordPress Users and WooCommerce lists are managed by MailPoet and cannot be changed by hand. |
| First name | No | Insert the First name token. Only used when the subscriber is new to MailPoet. |
| Last name | No | Insert the Last name token. Only used when the subscriber is new to MailPoet. |
| Send the confirmation email | No | On by default. It only has an effect when sign-up confirmation is switched on in MailPoet. Until they confirm, the subscriber stays unconfirmed and receives no newsletters. |
| Do not send the welcome email | No | Off by default. Tick it to stop MailPoet scheduling its welcome email for the list. |
If you leave the name fields empty, Zapify fills them with the name on the user's WordPress profile.
Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 6: Test it
Register a test account with an email address you control. Open MailPoet → Subscribers to find the new subscriber and their list, or open Zapify → Logs to confirm the run.
Tokens you can use
The A user registers trigger exposes these tokens for the action's fields:
| Token | Value |
|---|---|
| User email | The new account's email address. |
| Display name / First name / Last name | Name parts, if set. |
| Username | The login name. |
| Registration date | When they registered. |
After the action runs it exposes Subscriber ID, the MailPoet ID of the subscriber it acted on, for later actions.
Conclusion
With the free A user registers trigger and the Add a subscriber to lists action, your MailPoet list grows with your user base. Combine it with a welcome email in the same automation.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
The trigger is free. Add a subscriber to lists is part of the MailPoet PRO integration and needs an active Zapify PRO licence.
What if the person is already a subscriber?
Zapify finds them by email and subscribes them to the chosen lists without creating a duplicate. Their existing name is left alone.
Will they get a confirmation email?
Yes, if sign-up confirmation is switched on in MailPoet and Send the confirmation email is ticked. They stay unconfirmed until they click the link.
Why is the run skipped?
The person has unsubscribed or bounced in MailPoet. Zapify will not subscribe them again; the log says so.
Why can I not pick MailPoet's WordPress Users list?
MailPoet manages its WordPress Users and WooCommerce lists itself and does not allow them to be changed by hand, so only ordinary lists are offered.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is configured visually.
