Brevo Automations
How to Add a Contact Form 7 Subscriber to Brevo With Double Opt-In
A newsletter signup should be confirmed by the person who typed the address. With double opt-in, Brevo emails them a confirmation link, and they join your list only when they click it. Zapify sets this up with the free A form is submitted trigger and the Create or update a contact action in its double opt-in mode. Brevo is a Zapify PRO integration.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A form is submitted (
CF7_FORM_SUBMITTED, Contact Form 7) - Action: Create or update a contact (
BREVO_UPSERT_CONTACT, Brevo)
When someone submits the form, Zapify asks Brevo to email them a confirmation message. No contact is created yet. They join the list you chose when they click the link, and are then sent to the page you name.
Before you start
- Contact Form 7 installed and active, with a signup form that has an email field.
- A Brevo account (formerly Sendinblue).
- A Brevo API key — a v3 key from SMTP & API → API keys in your Brevo account, not an SMTP key. Brevo's own page for it is here.
- A list in Brevo for confirmed subscribers.
- A confirmation email template in Brevo, tagged
optin. Only templates with that tag are offered. Brevo's double opt-in guide explains how to make one. - A thank-you page on your site, for the redirect after they confirm.
PRO feature
Brevo is a Zapify PRO integration and needs a Connection under Settings → Connections. The Contact Form 7 trigger used here is free.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Connect Brevo
- Go to Settings → Connections and click Add New.

- Choose Brevo, paste in your API key, and name the connection something like Marketing Brevo.

- Click Test. Zapify asks Brevo whose account the key belongs to and answers with something like Connected to Brevo as Your Company (you@example.com), which catches a key pasted from the wrong account.
- Save.
See Connections for how this screen works generally.
Step 2: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Confirm newsletter signups in Brevo.

Step 3: Add the "A form is submitted" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose Contact Form 7 as the app.

- Select A form is submitted.

- In the Form field, pick your signup form. Choosing a form gives you a token for each of its fields.
Step 4: Add the "Create or update a contact" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose Brevo as the app.

- Select Create or update a contact.

Step 5: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Yes | The Brevo connection from Step 1. |
| Email address | Yes | Insert the token for the form's email field. |
| Attributes | No | For example FIRSTNAME with the form's name token. |
| Lists | Yes | At least one list. It is what the contact joins when they confirm. |
| Use double opt-in | Yes | Tick it. |
| Confirmation email template | Yes | A template tagged optin in Brevo. |
| Redirect URL | Yes | Where they land after confirming, such as your thank-you page. It must be a full web address. |
Update existing is not used here
Update the contact if it already exists has no effect with double opt-in. The confirmation email goes out, and the person is added when they click it.
Step 6: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 7: Test it
Submit the form with an address you control. You should receive the confirmation email from Brevo. Click its link and check that you land on your thank-you page and that the contact appears on the list. Zapify → Logs shows A confirmation email was sent to ….
Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Brevo contact ID | Empty here, because no contact exists until they confirm. |
| Confirmation email sent | yes when the confirmation email was sent. |
Conclusion
With the A form is submitted trigger and the Create or update a contact action in double opt-in mode, only people who confirmed reach your list. For a direct add without confirmation, see adding a new user to Brevo.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
The Contact Form 7 trigger is free. The Brevo action needs an active Zapify PRO licence and a Connection.
Why is the contact not in Brevo yet?
With double opt-in the contact does not exist until they click the confirmation link. That is the point.
Why does it say I need a list, a template and a redirect URL?
Brevo needs all three: the list the contact joins, the confirmation email to send, and where to send them afterwards. Zapify checks each one first and tells you which is missing.
Why is my template not in the list?
Only templates tagged optin in Brevo are offered. Add the tag to the template in Brevo, wait a few minutes and reopen the field.
Does it work with other forms?
Yes. Use any trigger that gives you an email address, such as WPForms or Gravity Forms.
Do I need to write any code?
No. The API key is the only thing you copy from outside Zapify.
