BuddyPress Automations
Add a BuddyPress Activity When a WooCommerce Product Is Purchased
If your shop and your community live on the same WordPress site, a purchase is a natural thing to share — "Alex just joined the Photography Masterclass" — and it makes new customers feel welcome from the first minute. Zapify does this with the A product is purchased trigger (WooCommerce) and the Add an activity to a user action (BuddyPress).
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A product is purchased (
WC_PRODUCT_PURCHASED, WooCommerce) - Action: Add an activity to a user (
BP_ADD_ACTIVITY, BuddyPress)
When a customer buys the product you choose, Zapify posts an update to their BuddyPress activity stream.
Before you start
- WooCommerce and BuddyPress must both be installed and active, with the Activity Streams component switched on in your BuddyPress settings. Zapify's BuddyPress integration is not available on sites running BuddyBoss Platform.
- You need the product that should start the automation.
The customer needs a WordPress account
The activity is added to a member's stream, so the buyer needs a WordPress account. Guest checkouts have no account and no stream, so this automation only affects orders placed by a logged-in customer, or a guest order matched by WooCommerce to an existing account by email.
Think about privacy before you post purchases
A purchase is personal for some customers. Switch on Hide from the sitewide activity directory in the action so the update shows only on the customer's own profile, and make sure your shop terms or checkout wording lets customers know you do this.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Announce purchase in the activity stream.

Step 2: Add the "A product is purchased" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.
- Choose WooCommerce as the app.
- Select the trigger A product is purchased.
- In the trigger's Product field, pick the specific product, or leave it on Any to run for every purchase.
The trigger fires when the order reaches a paid status, such as Processing or Completed.

Step 3: Add the "Add an activity to a user" action
- Click Add Action.
- Choose BuddyPress as the app.
- Select Add an activity to a user.

Step 4: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| User | No | Leave empty to use the person the automation is running for — the buyer. |
| Content | Yes | The text of the update. Tokens are allowed. |
| Action text | No | The line shown above the content. Leave empty for "member posted an update". |
| Link | No | A web address to associate with the update. |
| Hide from the sitewide activity directory | No | When on, the update still appears on the member's own profile but not in the site-wide stream. |
For example:
- Content:
{Billing first name} just joined {Product names} — say hello!
Use the {} token button to insert the Billing first name and Product names tokens from the purchase.
Step 5: Set the steps Live and save
- Set both the trigger and the action to Live.
- Click Save.

Tokens you can use
The A product is purchased trigger offers these among its tokens for the Content, Action text and Link fields:
| Token | Value |
|---|---|
| Product names | Names of the purchased products |
| Billing first name / last name | Customer details |
| Order number | The order's number |
| Order total / Currency | Order value and currency |
Tokens this action makes available
Later actions in the same automation can use these:
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Activity ID | The ID of the update that was added. |
| Activity URL | The link to the update. |
How to test it
- Place a test order for the selected product as a logged-in customer and mark it as paid.
- Open that customer's BuddyPress profile and look at their Activity tab.
- If the update is missing, open Zapify → Logs to see whether the run fired and what the action reported.
Conclusion
With the A product is purchased trigger and the Add an activity to a user action, Zapify turns each sale into a warm welcome in your community. Next, put new buyers straight into a members' group with add a user to a BuddyPress group when a product is purchased.
FAQs
Will this update trigger my "A user posts to the activity stream" automations?
No. Updates added by Zapify do not start that trigger, so automations cannot set each other off in a loop. That trigger runs for posts members write themselves.
What does the update look like?
It looks like a normal status update from the customer. If you leave Action text empty, it reads "member posted an update", followed by your Content.
Is this feature free?
Yes. WooCommerce and BuddyPress are free Zapify integrations, and both the A product is purchased trigger and the Add an activity to a user action are included in the free plan.
Do I need to write any code?
No. Everything is configured in the Zapify visual builder.
