Groundhogg Automations

How to Add a Groundhogg Tag When a User Clicks a Button on Your Site

A simple "Tell me more" or "I'm interested in coaching" button can do real CRM work. When a logged-in visitor clicks it, Zapify can tag them in Groundhogg so the right funnel starts. It uses the A user clicks a button trigger and the Add tags to a contact action. Buttons and Groundhogg are Zapify PRO integrations.

What this automation does

The automation is one trigger plus one action:

  • Trigger: A user clicks a button (BUTTON_CLICKED, Buttons)
  • Action: Add tags to a contact (GROUNDHOGG_ADD_TAG, Groundhogg)

When a logged-in visitor clicks the button, Zapify applies your tag to their Groundhogg contact, creating the contact from their account if needed.

PRO feature

Buttons and Groundhogg are Zapify PRO integrations. The Groundhogg trigger and action used in this automation needs an active Zapify PRO licence.

Before you start

  • Groundhogg installed and active.
  • A page where visitors are logged in, such as a members' area.
  • A tag name such as interested-coaching.

How to build the automation

Step 1: Create a new automation

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
  2. Click Add New to open the builder.
  3. Name it clearly, such as Tag members who click Tell me more.

  1. Click Add Trigger.

Add a trigger

  1. Choose Buttons as the app and select A user clicks a button.

Select Button -> A user clicks a button

Step 3: Add the "Add tags to a contact" action

  1. Click Add Action.

Add an action

  1. Choose Groundhogg as the app.

Step 4: Configure the action

Field Required What it does
Tags One of the two Pick one or more tags that already exist in Groundhogg.
Tag names One of the two Type tag names separated by commas. A name that does not exist yet is created, so the automation works the first time you run it. Matching ignores upper and lower case.
Contact email No Leave empty to tag the visitor who clicked.

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save

Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.

  1. Set the trigger and every action to Live.
  2. Click Save.

Set the automation live

Step 6: Put the button on a page

Add this shortcode to any page, post or widget. The key must match the key on the trigger:

[zapify_button key="interested-coaching" label="Tell me more"]

See Buttons for every shortcode option and the inline link version.

Step 7: Test it

Log in as a test user and click the button. Check the user's contact in Groundhogg → Contacts for the tag, or open Zapify → Logs to confirm the run.

Conclusion

The Buttons trigger and the Add tags to a contact action let a visitor raise their hand with one click and have Groundhogg react. For the email version, see Buttons and add a Send an email action beside the tag.
