MailPoet Automations

How to Add a Contact Form 7 Submission to a MailPoet List

Your contact form already collects names and emails. Zapify can add the people who ask for your newsletter to a MailPoet list, using the free Contact Form 7 A form is submitted trigger and the Add a subscriber to lists action. MailPoet is a Zapify PRO integration.

What this automation does

The automation is one trigger plus one action:

  • Trigger: A form is submitted (CF7_FORM_SUBMITTED, Contact Form 7)
  • Action: Add a subscriber to lists (MAILPOET_ADD_SUBSCRIBER, MailPoet)

When a visitor submits the form you choose, Zapify adds their email to the lists you pick.

Only add people who ticked the box

Not everyone who writes to you wants a newsletter. Add an acceptance or checkbox field to the form, then use a Condition (PRO) so the action only runs when it is ticked. See Filters and conditions. Leave Send the confirmation email ticked so MailPoet can ask them to confirm.

Subscribed or unconfirmed?

Zapify cannot choose the new subscriber's status. MailPoet decides it from its own setting: with sign-up confirmation switched on (MailPoet → Settings → Sign-up Confirmation) new subscribers start Unconfirmed until they click the link in the confirmation email; with it off they are Subscribed straight away.

People who unsubscribed are left alone

If the email belongs to somebody who has unsubscribed or bounced in MailPoet, Zapify does not add them again. The run is recorded as skipped with the reason, because quietly re-subscribing someone who opted out is how senders end up reported as spam.

PRO feature

MailPoet is a Zapify PRO integration. The MailPoet action used in this automation needs an active Zapify PRO licence.

No Connection needed

MailPoet runs on your own site rather than somebody else's server. There is no API key to paste and nothing to set up under Settings → Connections — the integration only needs MailPoet installed and active.

Before you start

  • Contact Form 7 and MailPoet installed and active.
  • A published Contact Form 7 form with an email field, ideally with a "Subscribe me to the newsletter" checkbox.
  • A MailPoet list to add people to.

How to build the automation

Step 1: Create a new automation

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
  2. Click Add New to open the builder.
  3. Name it clearly, such as Send Contact Form 7 sign-ups to MailPoet.

  1. Click Add Trigger.

Select A form is submitted

In the Form field, pick the specific form. Choosing a form exposes one token per field on it — see send an email when a Contact Form 7 form is submitted for more on form-field tokens.

Step 3: Add the "Add a subscriber to lists" action

  1. Click Add Action.

Step 4: Configure the action

Field Required What it does
Subscriber email Yes Insert the token for the form's email field.
Lists Yes Pick one or more MailPoet lists to subscribe them to. Only ordinary lists appear — MailPoet's own WordPress Users and WooCommerce lists are managed by MailPoet and cannot be changed by hand.
First name No Insert the form's first-name field token. Only used when the subscriber is new to MailPoet.
Last name No Insert the form's last-name field token. Only used when the subscriber is new to MailPoet.
Send the confirmation email No On by default. It only has an effect when sign-up confirmation is switched on in MailPoet. Until they confirm, the subscriber stays unconfirmed and receives no newsletters.
Do not send the welcome email No Off by default. Tick it to stop MailPoet scheduling its welcome email for the list.

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save

Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.

  1. Set the trigger and every action to Live.
  2. Click Save.

Set the automation live

Step 6: Test it

Submit the form with a test email address and the newsletter box ticked. Open MailPoet → Subscribers to find the subscriber, or open Zapify → Logs to confirm the run.

Tokens you can use

Once you have chosen a specific form in the trigger, Zapify exposes one token per field on that form, plus Form ID, Form title, Submitted at and All fields. Insert them into the action's fields to match whatever your form collects.

After the action runs it exposes Subscriber ID, the MailPoet ID of the subscriber it acted on, for later actions.

Conclusion

With the free A form is submitted trigger and the Add a subscriber to lists action, your contact form feeds your newsletter. To alert your team as well, add an email when the form is submitted to the same automation.

FAQs

Is this free in Zapify?

The Contact Form 7 trigger is free. Add a subscriber to lists is part of the MailPoet PRO integration and needs an active Zapify PRO licence.

Why not just use a MailPoet form?

You can, and for a plain sign-up box you should. This automation is for the case where the person is already filling in a Contact Form 7 form and you want to offer the newsletter there.

What happens if the same person submits twice?

Zapify finds the existing subscriber by email and subscribes them again without creating a duplicate.

Can I save other answers, like phone number?

Not with this action. It sets email, first name and last name; MailPoet custom fields are not supported yet.

Do I need to write any code?

No. Everything is configured visually.
