Brevo Automations
How to Add a Contact to a Brevo List When a LearnDash Course Is Completed
A learner who has just finished a course is the best person to tell about the next one. Zapify can add them to a Brevo list when they complete it, using the A user completes a course trigger and the Add or remove a contact from a list action. Both are Zapify PRO.
What this automation does
The automation is one trigger plus one action:
- Trigger: A user completes a course (
LEARNDASH_COURSE_COMPLETED, LearnDash) - Action: Add or remove a contact from a list (
BREVO_LIST_MEMBERSHIP, Brevo)
When a learner completes the course, Zapify adds their email to the Brevo list you choose.
Before you start
- LearnDash installed and active, with a course.
- A Brevo account (formerly Sendinblue).
- A Brevo API key — a v3 key from SMTP & API → API keys in your Brevo account, not an SMTP key. Brevo's own page for it is here.
- A list in Brevo for course graduates.
- The learner must already be a contact in Brevo. This action only changes list membership. To add somebody new, use Create or update a contact with a list chosen, or put that action in front of this one in the same automation.
PRO feature
LearnDash and Brevo are Zapify PRO integrations, and Brevo needs a Connection under Settings → Connections.
How to build the automation
Step 1: Connect Brevo
- Go to Settings → Connections and click Add New.

- Choose Brevo, paste in your API key, and name the connection something like Marketing Brevo.

- Click Test. Zapify asks Brevo whose account the key belongs to and answers with something like Connected to Brevo as Your Company (you@example.com), which catches a key pasted from the wrong account.
- Save.
See Connections for how this screen works generally.
Step 2: Create a new automation
- In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
- Click Add New to open the builder.
- Name it clearly, such as Add graduates to a Brevo list.

Step 3: Add the "A user completes a course" trigger
- Click Add Trigger.

- Choose LearnDash as the app.

- Select A user completes a course.

- In the Course field, pick the course, or leave it as any course.
Step 4: Add the "Add or remove a contact from a list" action
- Click Add Action.

- Choose Brevo as the app.

- Select Add or remove a contact from a list.

Step 5: Configure the action
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Yes | The Brevo connection from Step 1. |
| Add or remove | Yes | Choose Add. |
| Email address | Yes | Insert the learner's email with the { } token picker, using the user's email token. |
| List | Yes | The Brevo list to add them to. |
Step 6: Set the steps Live and save
Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.
- Set the trigger and every action to Live.
- Click Save.

Step 7: Test it
Complete the course as a test learner who is already a Brevo contact. Check the list in Brevo, or Zapify → Logs, which shows … was added to list ….
Tokens you can use
| Token | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Course ID / Course title / Course URL | The course that was completed. |
| Completed at | When it was completed. |
| User tokens, such as the user's email | The learner the run is about. |
Conclusion
With the A user completes a course trigger and the Add or remove a contact from a list action, finishing a course puts a learner on the right list for what comes next. To remove somebody from a list instead, see removing a contact from a Brevo list when an order is refunded.
FAQs
Is this free in Zapify?
No. LearnDash and Brevo are both Zapify PRO integrations, and Brevo needs a Connection.
Why did it fail with a message about the contact?
This action only changes membership of a contact that exists in Brevo. If they are not there, the log tells you to check that the contact exists. Add them first with Create or update a contact.
Can I add them to several lists?
Add one Add or remove a contact from a list action per list, or use Create or update a contact, which accepts several lists at once.
Why is my new list, attribute or template not in the dropdown?
Zapify keeps the lists, attributes and templates it reads from Brevo for ten minutes, so the builder does not call Brevo on every dropdown. Wait a few minutes and reopen the field. If the dropdown stays empty, use Test on the connection, because an unreachable Brevo gives an empty list.
Do I need to write any code?
No. The API key is the only thing you copy from outside Zapify.
