MailPoet Automations

How to Add a MailPoet Tag When a Student Completes a LifterLMS Course

A finished course is the best moment to sell the next one or ask for a review. Zapify can tag the student in MailPoet as soon as LifterLMS marks the course complete, using the A user completes a course trigger and the Add a tag to a subscriber action. LifterLMS and MailPoet are both Zapify PRO integrations.

What this automation does

The automation is one trigger plus one action:

  • Trigger: A user completes a course (LIFTERLMS_COURSE_COMPLETED, LifterLMS)
  • Action: Add a tag to a subscriber (MAILPOET_ADD_TAG, MailPoet)

When the student completes the course you choose, Zapify applies your tag to their MailPoet subscriber. You can then send a MailPoet campaign to everyone with that tag.

The student must already be a MailPoet subscriber

Tagging does not create subscribers: adding someone to your list without their consent is not something a tag action should do. If the student's email is not in MailPoet, the run fails with a message saying so. To add them first, put an Add a subscriber to lists action before this one.

PRO feature

MailPoet is a Zapify PRO integration. The MailPoet action used in this automation needs an active Zapify PRO licence.

No Connection needed

MailPoet runs on your own site rather than somebody else's server. There is no API key to paste and nothing to set up under Settings → Connections — the integration only needs MailPoet installed and active.

Before you start

  • LifterLMS and MailPoet installed and active.
  • At least one published LifterLMS course.
  • Students who are MailPoet subscribers, using the same email as their account.
  • A tag name in mind, such as completed-web-design-101. You do not need to create it first.

How to build the automation

Step 1: Create a new automation

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Zapify → Automations.
  2. Click Add New to open the builder.
  3. Name it clearly, such as Tag students who finish a course.

Step 4: Configure the action

Field Required What it does
Tag One of the two Pick an existing MailPoet tag.
Tag names One of the two Type tag names separated by commas. A name that does not exist yet is created, so the automation works the first time you run it.
Subscriber email No Leave empty. Zapify then uses the email of the student who completed the course.

Step 5: Set the steps Live and save

Each trigger and action has its own Live / Off / Draft switch. A new automation starts as a Draft and does nothing until its steps are Live.

  1. Set the trigger and every action to Live.
  2. Click Save.

Set the automation live

Step 6: Test it

Complete the course as a test student whose email is a MailPoet subscriber. Open MailPoet → Subscribers and check the tag, or open Zapify → Logs to confirm the run.

Tokens you can use

The A user completes a course trigger exposes Course ID, Course title and Course URL. Insert Course title after completed- in Tag names if you want one automation for any course.

After the action runs it exposes Subscriber ID, the MailPoet ID of the subscriber it acted on, for later actions.

Conclusion

With the A user completes a course trigger and the Add a tag to a subscriber action, course completions become tags your MailPoet campaigns can target. For the email side, see sending an email when a LifterLMS course is completed.

FAQs

Is this free in Zapify?

No. LifterLMS and MailPoet are both Zapify PRO integrations, so both the trigger and the action need an active PRO licence.

Why did the run fail?

There is no MailPoet subscriber with the student's email. Open Zapify → Logs to see the message, then subscribe them or add an Add a subscriber to lists step first.

Can I tag someone else instead?

Yes. Type an address or insert a token into Subscriber email to tag a different subscriber.

What if the student already has the tag?

Nothing changes and the run still succeeds. Tagging twice is harmless.

Do I need to write any code?

No. Everything is configured visually.
