How to Create & Use UTM Presets

Typing the same utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign values into every link invites typos and inconsistent reporting. UTM Presets let you save a named set of UTM parameters once and apply it to any short link from a dropdown, so your tracking stays consistent across a whole campaign. UTM Presets are a URL Shortify PRO feature, found under URL Shortify → UTM Presets.

PRO feature

UTM Presets, per-link UTM tracking, and custom UTM query keys are available in URL Shortify PRO.

What are UTM Presets?

A UTM preset is a saved, reusable library entry that holds a set of UTM parameter values — source, medium, campaign, and so on — under a name you choose. Instead of retyping those values for every link, you pick the preset from a dropdown when you build a short link, and URL Shortify appends the parameters to the destination URL. This keeps campaign tagging consistent and removes the manual mistakes that break reporting in Google Analytics.

How to create a UTM preset

  1. Go to URL Shortify → UTM Presets.

  2. Click Add New.

  3. Fill in the fields:

    Field What it's for
Name How you'll recognise the preset in the dropdown, e.g. Spring Newsletter
Description (optional) A note on what the preset is used for
ID (utm_id) The ad campaign ID
Source (utm_source) The referrer, e.g. google, newsletter
Medium (utm_medium) The marketing medium, e.g. cpc, banner, email
Campaign (utm_campaign) Product, promo code or slogan, e.g. spring_sale
    Term (utm_term) Paid-search keywords
Content (utm_content) Used to differentiate similar ads or links
  4. Save the preset.

Create UTM Preset

You can review and manage every preset you've created from the same URL Shortify → UTM Presets screen.

UTM Presets List

  1. Go to URL Shortify → Links → Add New (or edit an existing link).
  2. Open the UTM Tracking section of the link form.
  3. Choose a saved preset from the dropdown. URL Shortify fills in the UTM parameters, which are appended to the link's destination URL.
  4. Save the link.

Use UTM Preset

The dropdown appears only after you create a preset

The UTM Presets dropdown on the link form shows up once you have saved at least one preset. If you don't see it, create a preset under URL Shortify → UTM Presets first.

Renaming the UTM query keys (Custom UTM Parameters)

Some platforms expect UTM keys with different names. In URL Shortify PRO you can rename the query keys that get written to the URL under URL Shortify → Settings → Links → Custom UTM Parameters. Each of utm_id, utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content can be given a custom key name; each defaults to its own standard name.

This changes only the query-string keys in the generated link — your presets and their values stay the same.

Conclusion

UTM Presets turn repetitive, error-prone campaign tagging into a one-click choice, keeping your analytics consistent across every link in a campaign. Create presets under URL Shortify → UTM Presets, apply them from the UTM Tracking section of the link form, and rename the query keys under Settings → Links if a platform expects them differently. FAQs

Are UTM Presets available in the free version?

No. UTM Presets are a URL Shortify PRO feature, along with per-link UTM tracking and custom UTM query keys. In the free version you can still create and track short links, but the UTM builder, saved presets and the UTM Tracking section of the link form require PRO.

Where do I manage my saved UTM presets?

Go to URL Shortify → UTM Presets. That screen lists every preset you've created and lets you add new ones with Add New, as well as edit or remove existing presets. The presets you save here are the ones that appear in the dropdown on the link form.

The dropdown appears only after at least one preset exists. Create a preset under URL Shortify → UTM Presets first, then open URL Shortify → Links → Add New and expand the UTM Tracking section — the saved presets will be listed there for selection.

Can I change the UTM parameter names in the final URL?

Yes, with PRO. Under URL Shortify → Settings → Links → Custom UTM Parameters you can rename each query key — utm_id, utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content — to a custom name. This affects only the query keys written to the link; the preset values themselves are unchanged.

What UTM parameters can a preset hold?

A preset can store all six standard UTM parameters: ID (utm_id), Source (utm_source), Medium (utm_medium), Campaign (utm_campaign), Term (utm_term) and Content (utm_content). You can fill in as many or as few as your campaign needs, plus a name and an optional description to identify the preset.
