Compare Links, Groups or Tags Side by Side

Raw click counts tell you how many, but rarely what's working. Smart Reports turns your link data into answerable questions: which campaign drove the most signups last month, how a group of blog links compares over 90 days, or how many people who clicked an ad link went on to check out.

A Smart Report is a saved question, not a saved number. It stores the filter you built — not the totals — so every time you open it, it re-runs against your latest clicks and shows current data.

This feature is available in URL Shortify PRO (URL Shortify 2.6.0 and later).

What you can do with Smart Reports

  • Compare links, groups, or tags side by side.
  • Report over the last 7, 30, 60 or 90 days, or a custom date range.
  • Chart by total clicks or unique clicks.
  • Pick a goal link to measure conversions and conversion rate.
  • Save a report and reopen it any time — the numbers are always up to date.
  • See per-link device, browser and platform breakdowns, and a 12-month activity heatmap.

Where to find Smart Reports

In your WordPress admin, go to URL Shortify → Smart Reports.

There are two screens behind that one menu item:

  • Saved Reports — the list of reports you've built.
  • The report builder / view — where you create a report and read its results.

Building a report

From Smart Reports, click Add New (or open an existing report to edit it) and fill in the builder:

  1. Report Name — how you'll recognise it later, e.g. Blog funnel to signup.
  2. Description (optional) — a note on what the report answers, e.g. Which blog posts send the most trial signups.
  3. Compare — choose the kind of thing you're measuring: Links, Groups, or Tags.
  4. Date RangeLast 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 60 days, Last 90 days, or Custom (pick a From and To date).
  5. Chart MetricTotal clicks (every click) or Unique clicks (one per visitor). See Understanding Clicks & Generating Clean Reports for the difference.
  6. Selection — pick the specific links, groups, or tags you want in the report. Switching Compare rebuilds this list.
  7. Goal link (optional) — set a conversion target (see Goal links & conversions below). Leave it as No goal link for a plain click report.

Click Save and the report opens with your results.

Smart Report Builder

Reading your report

A report opens with a summary row, then charts and tables:

  • Summary stats — number of Links in the report, Total Clicks, Unique Clicks, and — when a goal link is set — Conversions and Conversion Rate.
  • Clicks over time — a line chart of your chosen metric across the date range.
  • Link Activity Intensity — a heatmap of clicks per day across the last 12 months for the links in the report.
  • Link performance — a sortable table with each link's total and unique clicks, its most common device, browser and platform (with that value's share of the link's clicks), and, when a goal is set, its conversions and conversion rate. The goal link is marked with a Goal badge.
  • Clicks Details — every recorded click across the links in the report.

If you see No clicks in this range, try a wider date range or a different selection.

Completed Smart Report

A goal link turns a click report into a simple funnel. Pick the link that represents the outcome you care about — a signup, a purchase, a booking — as the goal.

URL Shortify then works out, for each link in your selection, how many of its visitors went on to reach the goal link:

  • Conversions — visitors who clicked a link in your selection and later reached the goal link.
  • Conversion Rate — conversions ÷ that link's clicks, shown as a percentage.

The goal link isn't counted as converting to itself, so its own row shows clicks without a conversion rate.

This is what lets you answer questions like "which of these five campaign links actually leads to the most checkouts?" rather than just "which got the most clicks?"

Saving and reusing reports

Because a saved report stores the filter and not the numbers, reopening it always re-runs against your current data — there's nothing to refresh or regenerate.

  • Reports are per user — you see and manage your own saved reports.
  • From the Saved Reports list you can open, edit, or delete any report.
  • Editing a report and saving keeps the same report; the next time anyone opens it, it reflects the change.

You don't have to build the selection by hand. In the Links table, tick the links you want to analyse and choose Compare in Smart Reports from the bulk actions — URL Shortify opens a new report with those links already selected.

Trustworthy numbers by default

Smart Reports is built on the same clean click data as the rest of URL Shortify — bot and crawler hits are filtered out, and you can chart total or unique clicks depending on the question. For the full picture of how clicks are counted, see Understanding Clicks & Generating Clean Reports.

Conclusion

Smart Reports takes URL Shortify from "here are your click counts" to "here's the answer to your question." Build a report once — comparing the links, groups, or tags you care about, over the range that matters, against a goal — save it, and reopen it whenever you need a current read. It's the fastest way to see which links are actually pulling their weight.

FAQs

Is Smart Reports available in the free version?

No. Smart Reports is a PRO feature, available in URL Shortify 2.6.0 and later.

Do saved reports show old, cached numbers?

No. A saved report stores the filter you built, not the totals. Each time you open it, it re-runs against your latest clicks, so the numbers are always current.

Yes. The Compare option lets you build a report around Links, Groups, or Tags.

What's the difference between total and unique clicks?

Total clicks counts every click; unique clicks counts one per visitor. Choose which one drives the chart with Chart Metric. See Understanding Clicks & Generating Clean Reports for details.

How are conversions calculated?

When you set a goal link, a conversion is a visitor who clicked one of the links in your selection and later reached that goal link. Conversion rate is conversions divided by that link's clicks.

Can other users see my Smart Reports?

No. Saved reports belong to the user who created them — each person manages their own.
