Link Rotation: Rotate Traffic Across Multiple URLs
Running the same campaign across several landing pages, servers, or affiliate offers usually means creating a separate link for each — and no easy way to control the split. URL Shortify PRO's Link Rotation solves this: one short link holds multiple destination URLs and sends each click to one of them according to weights you set. Link Rotation is a Dynamic Redirection type on the link form and is available in URL Shortify PRO.
PRO feature
Link Rotation is part of URL Shortify PRO. In the free version the Dynamic Redirection section shows only an upgrade prompt, and every visitor is sent to a single Target URL.
What is Link Rotation?
Link Rotation is a per-link setting that attaches several destination URLs to one short link and distributes clicks across them using weighted percentages. On every click, URL Shortify picks one URL at random according to the configured weights, so a URL weighted higher receives proportionally more traffic. This powers traffic balancing, campaign rotation, and A/B split testing.
Common uses for Link Rotation
- A/B testing — send visitors to competing landing pages and compare performance. See A/B split testing.
- Load balancing — spread traffic across multiple servers or mirror sites.
- Campaign rotation — cycle between several ad or offer URLs under one link.
- Weighted rollouts — send most traffic to a proven page while trickling a share to a new one (for example 80/20).
How to set up Link Rotation
- Go to URL Shortify → Links and add a new link or click Edit on an existing one.
- Enter your primary destination in the main Target URL field. This becomes the first rotation entry.
- Find the Dynamic Redirection section and select Link Rotation from the dropdown.
- A table with Target URL and Weight columns appears. The first row is locked to your primary URL and displays Above Entered Target URL — edit it from the main Target URL field, not here.
- Use the + (add) button in the Action column to add a row for each additional destination URL, and set its Weight. Remove a row with the trash icon.
- Click Save Link.

The rotation table
| Column | What it does |
|---|---|
| Target URL | A destination the link can rotate to. The first row is locked to your main Target URL (shown as Above Entered Target URL). |
| Weight | The share of traffic sent to this URL, chosen as a percentage (0–100%) from the dropdown. |
How weights work
Each URL's Weight is a percentage picked from a dropdown (0% to 100%). The weights across all rows should total 100% or less — if they add up to more than 100%, URL Shortify shows a warning asking you to bring the total to 100% or under. On each click, URL Shortify chooses a URL at random in proportion to these weights.
| Variant | Weight | Approx. traffic share |
|---|---|---|
| Page A | 50% | 50% |
| Page B | 50% | 50% |
For an even split, give each URL the same weight. For a cautious rollout, weight the proven page higher (for example 80%) and the new page lower (20%).
Rotation is per click
URL Shortify picks a destination on every click, independently. The same visitor clicking twice may land on different URLs. The unique-visitor counts on the stats page help you interpret results despite this.
Turning rotation into a split test
Below the rotation table are two extra controls that turn a plain rotator into a measured experiment:
- Split Test — a toggle that tracks the rotation as an experiment with conversion goals rather than a simple traffic splitter.
- Goal Link — a dropdown of your existing short links; when a visitor who saw a variant later clicks this link, it counts as a conversion for that variant.
For the full split-testing workflow, reading results, and conversion tracking, see A/B split testing.
Link Rotation vs. other dynamic redirects
Link Rotation distributes clicks across weighted URLs. To route by visitor country instead, use Geo Location redirection; to route by device, OS, or browser, use Technology redirection. A link can use only one Dynamic Redirection type at a time.
Conclusion
Link Rotation turns one short link into a weighted traffic router — ideal for load balancing, campaign rotation, and the foundation of split testing. Set your weights to total 100% or less, then enable Split Test and pick a Goal Link to measure which destination converts best. Continue with A/B split testing to read the results, or explore link tracking to understand the click metrics behind them.
FAQs
How many destination URLs can I rotate between?
There is no fixed limit — use the + button in the Action column to add as many rows as you need. The first row is always locked to your main Target URL, and each row you add takes its own weight. Keep the combined weights at 100% or less so URL Shortify can distribute traffic without showing a warning.
Do the weights have to add up to 100%?
The weights should total 100% or less. If they exceed 100%, URL Shortify shows a warning asking you to reduce the total. Within that limit you control the split freely — equal weights create an even rotation, while unequal weights (such as 70% and 30%) send proportionally more traffic to the higher-weighted URL.
Will the same visitor always see the same URL?
No. URL Shortify chooses a destination independently on each click based on the weights, so the same person clicking twice may be sent to different URLs. This is expected for rotation and testing. The unique-visitor and first-click counts on the link's stats page help you interpret the numbers accurately.
What is the difference between Link Rotation and A/B testing?
Link Rotation is the underlying mechanism that splits clicks across weighted URLs. A/B testing is Link Rotation with the Split Test toggle enabled and a Goal Link selected, so URL Shortify tracks conversions and highlights a winning variant. See A/B split testing for the complete setup and how to read the results.
Is Link Rotation available in the free version?
No. Link Rotation is a URL Shortify PRO feature. In the free version the Dynamic Redirection section on the link form shows an upgrade prompt instead of the rotation table, and every visitor is sent to a single Target URL. Upgrading to PRO unlocks Link Rotation along with Geo Location and Technology redirects.
