Organise Short Links with Groups
Managing short links one by one gets unwieldy fast. URL Shortify's Groups let you file related links together — one group per campaign, client, channel, or product — then filter and report on them as a set instead of link by link. Groups are free, and a link can belong to as many as you need.
What is a link group?
A link group is a free container in URL Shortify that holds related short links and gives that whole set its own statistics page. You create groups under URL Shortify → Groups, assign links to them, and then view combined clicks for the group rather than for a single link. A link can sit in several groups at once.
Groups vs. tags
Both organise links, and you can use them together — but tags are a PRO feature while groups are free.
| Groups (free) | Tags (PRO) | |
|---|---|---|
| A link can belong to | Several groups | Several tags |
| Best for | The big buckets: a campaign, a client, a channel | Cross-cutting labels: affiliate, evergreen, paid |
| Has its own statistics page | Yes | Yes |
| Colour coded | No | Yes |
A practical split: a group for Black Friday 2026, tags for affiliate and email across every campaign.
Tags are a PRO feature
Groups are available in the free version. Tags — the colour-coded, cross-cutting labels above — require URL Shortify PRO. See Link Tags for the tagging side.
Create a group
- Go to URL Shortify → Groups.
- Click Add New.
- Enter a name, and a description if it helps your team.
- Save.
Add links to a group
When creating or editing a link — pick one or more groups in the Groups field on the link form.
For links that already exist — from URL Shortify → Links:
- Tick the links you want to move.
- Choose Add to group from the bulk actions dropdown.
- Pick the group and apply.
Bulk actions are the quick way to file a batch of links you've just imported.
A link can be in more than one group
Adding a link to a second group doesn't remove it from the first. That's useful when a link belongs to both a campaign and a client, but it does mean a click can be counted in both groups' statistics.
Filter the links list by group
On URL Shortify → Links, use the filter dropdown above the table to show only links in a chosen group. There's also a No group option for finding links you haven't filed yet.
See statistics for a group
Open URL Shortify → Groups and click a group's name to open its statistics page, where you get the group's totals rather than a single link's — clicks over time, top links, referrers, countries, and devices, with the same date-range filters as the main dashboard.
This is the view to use for questions like how did the spring campaign perform overall?
Auto-created groups on import
When you bring links in with a one-click import, URL Shortify creates a group named after the source plugin — Pretty Links, ThirstyAffiliates, Easy 301 Redirects — and adds every migrated link to it.
That gives you one place to review everything that came across, and an easy way to undo a migration in bulk if you need to. See One-Click Import.
Delete a group
Deleting a group from URL Shortify → Groups removes the group and its link associations. Your links are not deleted — they simply stop belonging to that group and keep working exactly as before, along with all their click history.
Conclusion
Groups are the free way to keep short links organised in URL Shortify: create a group under URL Shortify → Groups, assign links on the link form or in bulk from the Links list, and open a group's name for combined campaign statistics. When you need colour-coded, cross-cutting labels on top of these big buckets, Link Tags add that in PRO, and Favorite Links let you star the links you open most.
FAQs
What is the difference between a group and a tag in URL Shortify?
Groups are the larger containers — a campaign, a client, a channel — and are free. Tags are cross-cutting, colour-coded labels and require PRO. A link can belong to several of each, and both have their own statistics pages, so many sites use groups for the big buckets and tags for labels that span them.
Can one short link belong to more than one group?
Yes. A link can be in as many groups as you need, and its clicks count towards each of those groups' statistics. Assign multiple groups in the Groups field on the link form, or add existing links to a group in bulk from the Links page.
Does deleting a group delete the links inside it?
No. Deleting a group removes only the group and its associations. The links, their slugs, and their click history are untouched, and they keep redirecting exactly as before. They simply stop belonging to that group.
Can I add many existing links to a group at once?
Yes. On URL Shortify → Links, tick the links you want, choose Add to group from the bulk actions dropdown, pick the group, and apply. This is the fastest way to file a batch of links — for example, everything you've just imported.
Can I see click statistics for a whole group?
Yes. Click a group's name on URL Shortify → Groups to open its statistics page. You get combined totals across every link in the group — clicks over time, top links, referrers, countries, and devices — with the same date-range filters as the main dashboard.
Do groups affect how a short link redirects?
No. Groups are purely for organisation and reporting. They don't change the slug, the destination, or the redirect behaviour of any link. Removing a link from a group, or deleting the group, leaves the redirect working exactly as it did.
