How to Add Social Share Buttons to Posts and Pages
How to add social share buttons to posts and pages
To add share buttons, go to WordPress admin → Social Linkz → Settings → Inline Content, turn on Enable Inline Content, choose your Post Types and networks, then click Save. Social Linkz then adds the buttons above your content automatically — or lets you place them by hand with the [social_linkz] shortcode or the block editor. This is the core setup that puts share buttons on your site.
Step 1: Enable inline content
- Go to WordPress admin → Social Linkz → Settings → Inline Content.
- In the General Options section, turn on Enable Inline Content.
Nothing appears on your site until this switch is on.
Step 2: Choose where buttons appear
In the free version, inline buttons render above the content by default. To place them somewhere else — below the post, or in a specific spot — use the [social_linkz] shortcode or the block editor (see Step 5 and below).
PRO feature
The Button Position selector under the Display section is available in Social Linkz PRO. It lets you set the automatic placement without a shortcode:
| Position | What it does |
|---|---|
| Above Content | Buttons appear before the post content. |
| Below Content | Buttons appear after the post content. |
| Above and Below Content | Buttons appear both before and after the content. |
| Don't Add To Content (Shortcode) | Buttons are not added automatically — you place them yourself with the [social_linkz] shortcode. |
Step 3: Choose the post types
Still under Display, use Post Types to pick where buttons show:
- Posts
- Pages
Tick the post types where you want share buttons to appear.
PRO feature
Showing share buttons on custom post types (such as WooCommerce products or a portfolio) is available in Social Linkz PRO.
Step 4: Pick and reorder your networks
In the General Options section, the Social Networks control lists the networks you can show. The free plugin includes Facebook and X (Twitter).
- Turn a network on to include it.
- Drag networks to reorder them — the order here is the order readers see.
PRO feature
Social Linkz PRO adds 60+ more share networks. See supported networks for the full list.
Step 5: Save
Click Save. Open any post or page of a selected post type and your share buttons appear above the content (or wherever you placed the [social_linkz] shortcode).
Using the [social_linkz] shortcode
For manual placement, add the [social_linkz] shortcode wherever you want the buttons to render — inside post content, a text/shortcode block, or a widget area. In the free version this is how you put buttons in an exact spot, such as below the post, since automatic inline buttons appear above the content by default.
[social_linkz]
The shortcode was added in Social Linkz 1.9.0, so make sure you are on that version or later.
Styling and call-to-action text
Once your buttons are live, you can brand them — set the button color, hover color, icon color, shape, and layout under the Design section. See style and brand your buttons for the full walkthrough.
PRO feature
The Call To Action text shown next to the buttons (for example, a "Share" label) is a Social Linkz PRO feature.
Conclusion
Adding share buttons comes down to a few steps: enable inline content, choose your post types, pick and order your networks, and save. Free inline buttons appear above the content by default; to place them exactly, use the [social_linkz] shortcode or the block editor, and Social Linkz PRO adds a Button Position selector for automatic placement. Next, learn how to style and brand your buttons, or place buttons visually with the block editor.
