URL Shortify Smart Reports: Compare Links & Track Goals
You are running five short links to the same signup page — one in a newsletter, one on X, two in affiliates' posts, one from a webinar. The client asks a fair question: which of these actually brought signups, not just clicks? Until now URL Shortify could tell you how many times each link was clicked, but not how the links stacked up against each other, or how many of those clicks turned into the outcome you cared about. URL Shortify 2.6.0 adds Smart Reports to answer exactly that. Smart Reports is a URL Shortify PRO feature.
What Smart Reports is
Smart Reports is a URL Shortify PRO screen for comparing a set of links, groups or tags against each other over a date range, with an optional goal link that measures how many visitors went on to convert. It does not replace the per-link statistics you already have — it sits beside them for the question "which of these is working?"
Where to find it
In your WordPress admin, go to URL Shortify → Smart Reports. There are two screens behind that one menu item: a list of the reports you've saved, and the builder/view where you create a report and read its results.
Build a report
Building a report and reading one are separate steps — the report opens once you save it. On URL Shortify → Smart Reports, click Add New and fill in:
- Report name and an optional description so you recognise it later.
- Compare — choose what to measure against each other: Links, Groups, or Tags.
- Date range — Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 60 days, Last 90 days, or Custom with your own start and end dates. New reports default to the last 30 days.
- Metric — chart total clicks or unique clicks.
- Selection — pick the specific links, groups or tags to include.
- Goal link (optional) — set a conversion target (see below).
Save, and the report opens with your results.
What a report shows
A saved report opens with a clicks-over-time line chart (one line per item), the activity heatmap for the links it covers, and a per-link table of total clicks, unique clicks, conversions, conversion rate, and the most common device, browser and platform for that link. The table sorts on any column, and the full click log sits underneath.
Goal links, and conversions you can trust
Set a goal link — the link that represents the outcome you care about, such as a checkout or thank-you page — and every other link in the report shows how many of its visitors went on to reach that goal, and what share of its clicks that represents.
The count is deliberately conservative, so it reflects real behaviour rather than raw traffic:
- Counted once. Conversions count distinct visitors, so someone reloading a page ten times reads as one conversion, not ten.
- Order matters. A visitor only counts if their goal click came after their click on the measured link. Reaching the goal first and the link later is not a conversion.
- Anonymous clicks are excluded. A click with no visitor id can't be tied to a later goal click, so it's left out of the conversion count.
- The goal doesn't convert to itself. The goal link's own row shows its clicks but no conversion rate — that number wouldn't mean anything.
Compare a group without averaging it away
Group and Tag statistics normally add every link in the group together and draw a single line, which hides which links are doing the work. Switch on Compare and the chart draws one line per link instead. To stay readable it charts the top 8 links by clicks and tells you how many were left out. This compare view is a PRO feature.
Start from links you already have
You don't have to rebuild a selection by hand. On the Links screen, tick the links you want and choose Compare in Smart Reports from the bulk actions; or open a single link's statistics and follow Compare with other links. Either way the report opens with those links already selected.
Save it, reopen it
Save a report under a name and description, then reopen it whenever you like. A saved report stores the filter, not the numbers, so it always shows current data — there's nothing to regenerate or refresh. Saved reports are private to the person who created them.
What's free and what's PRO
Smart Reports, goal-link conversions, saved reports and the compare view are URL Shortify PRO features. One 2.6.0 change helps everyone, PRO or not: the release adds a database index on the clicks table covering the link and the date together, so the per-link charts stay fast on sites with a large click history.
Conclusion
Smart Reports turns a pile of click counts into an answer: which link, group or tag pulled its weight, and how many of those clicks became conversions. Build a report once, save it, and reopen it for a current read any time.
